Historic Meeting

This 2006 sculpture by James West on Mt. Washington overlooking Pittsburgh portrays and commemorates a meeting between George Washington and Seneca leader Guyasuta in October 1770 (as written on the plaque accompanying the monument). After meeting in 1753 in an effort to motivate the French to leave the area (they were unsuccessful), they met again 17 years later at a council fire down the Ohio River to revisit the past and debate the future of the highly prized region. Edward Luczak of Glenshaw photographied this scene in January 2019. Nikon D810, 35MM, F/11, ISO 300, 1/1505
